Nine years after Anna Politkovskaya's murder: her family treats crime as unsolved

Today, on the ninth anniversary of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, an observer of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", her son Ilya Politkovsky has stated that he treats the crime as unsolved.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead in Moscow on October 7, 2006. The verdict on her murder case was passed on June 9, 2014. Four natives of Chechnya and a Moscow ex-militiaman were convicted.

"The case of my mother's murder is not solved, since there is not even a hint in the progress of the investigation in the direction of the identification of the person, who ordered the murder. I am extremely dissatisfied with the progress of the investigation," Ilya Politkovsky said as quoted by the "Interfax".

According to Ilya Politkovsky, he learned from the media about the resignation of investigator Petros Garibyan, who was in charge of the investigation into the murder case.

"Officials from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) have answered to our request that they are not obliged to report the composition of the new investigative team. The ICRF clearly believes that the case is solved, although it is not true," the son of Anna Politkovskaya has reported.

On October 6, Sergey Sokolov, Editor-in-Chief of the "Novaya Gazeta", declared that he saw "more regress rather than progress in the investigation into the murder case."

"I would be glad to be mistaken, but it seems to me that the heads of the law enforcement agencies somehow had lost any interest in the investigation into the case. After retirement of investigator Petros Garibyan, who was in charge of the investigation into the case, it was sent to the lower division of the Chief Investigating Department. And at present, we, and advocates of the victims, and the victims themselves - Vera Politkovskaya and Ilya Politkovsky, the children of Anna Politkovskaya, are not aware of the progress of the investigation and the activities of the investigators in the case," Sergey Sokolov has noted.
