Parpulov’s defence appeals against verdict

The advocate of Pyotr Parpulov, sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of treason, has sent a complaint against the verdict to the Russia's Supreme Court (SC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 22 Pyotr Parpulov, a pensioner from Sochi, was sentenced to 12 years in a high security colony on charges of treason. His advocate Oleg Eliseev has accused the Krasnodar Territorial Regional Court of violating his client’s rights, arguing that the failure to issue the text of the verdict to the defence had artificially reduced the 10-day term of appealing against it.

According to Eliseev, today he has sent a preliminary complaint against the verdict to the Russia’s SC, as he has not been to read the full text of the verdict yet.

The advocate has explained that he demanded from the SC to declare Parpulov’s innocence and the verdict – illegal, "because of violations of the substantive and procedural law," the RIA "Novosti" reports.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer.
