Truckers of Southern Russia join strike against "Platon"
About 300 truckers from Volgograd Region have supported today the launched all-Russian strike against the introduction of the "Platon" system, Alla Beg, President of the Union of Carriers and Entrepreneurs of the Volgograd Region, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
On February 20, Russian truckers launched a new 10-day-long campaign against the "Platon" system. They state that they will not resume work and will not take orders until March 1. According to organizers, the protest action covers truckers from 45 regions of Russia.
"Truckers of Volgograd Region are fully supporting the Russia-wide strike," said Ms Beg. "As before, we insist on our economic demands – to abolish the 'Platon' tolling system."
According to Alla Beg, the striking truckers will stand till March 1. "We'll not transport freights; we'll be idling," she said. "I can't specify the exact number of strikers, but, in my estimation, there are about 300 of them."
The protest action was also supported by the Rostov Region; today, rallies of individual entrepreneurs and truckers were held in Taganrog and Millerovo.
