Interior ministry denies reports about prevented terror attack in Grozny

The Chechen Interior Ministry has not confirmed information that a large terrorist attack was prevented in the center of the Chechen capital, Grozny, on June 8.

"The media have reported that rebels' attempt to blow up the Gosstroy building was prevented in Grozny yesterday. However it is not exactly what happened. Our officers found a large-caliber shell while inspecting one of the buildings on Pobedy Avenue, near to the Gosstroy building. But it was found neither in the Gosstroy building itself nor in a basement under it. To all appearances, this unexploded shell has been there since the time of hostilities in Grozny. So there are no grounds to announce that a large terrorist attack was prevented in the center of Grozny or that rebels tried to blow up the Gosstroy building," the Interior Ministry's duty officer said.
