Levon Airapetyan transferred to prison hospital

The decision on hospitalization of the Armenian philanthropist Levon Airapetyan, whose health condition has deteriorated in prison, was taken after the intervention into the situation of the newly appointed Russian Ombudsperson Tatiana Moskalkova.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 24, after a sharp blood pressure jump, Levon Airapetyan, who is serving his term in Butyrka Prison in Moscow, fainted in his cell. A source from the Airapetyan's office said that the philanthropist is not allowed to take the necessary medicines.

On April 14, Levon Airapetyan was convicted in Russia to four years in prison on charges of embezzling 700,000 US dollars from the mother of the former Senator from Bashkortostan Igor Izmestiev. Levon Airapetyan refused to admit his guilt. In Armenia, actions are held demanding his release.

The fact that this morning Airapetyan was transferred to the hospital at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) "Matrosskaya Tishina" (Sailor's Silence) was announced by Tatiana Moskalkova on air of the "Echo Moskvy" Radio.

"I've asked the Ombudsperson for Moscow to visit at the SIZO Airapetyan, who had undergone heart surgery and asked to provide him with the adequate medical care," Moskalkova said. "Now, he is examined and will be provided with the adequate medical care."
