Dagestan Muslims mark start of Ramadan
The fasting in honour of the holy month of Ramadan has begun in Dagestan today, a day later than in other Russian regions.
The onset of the fasting, during which Muslims are forbidden to eat and drink from sunrise to sunset, has radically changed the urban life in the republic. Pedestrians have almost disappeared from streets; and public catering institutions have switched over to the night regime of work, the "Public Television of Russia" reports.
Every day of the holy fasting, all the mosques of the republic will be handing out free food to everyone, the RGVK "Dagestan" reports.
