Azerbaijani MIA: Fikret Faramazoglu caught red-handed

Fikret Faramazoglu, the editor-in-chief of the website "Jam.az", has been caught red-handed when receiving the extorted money amounting to 3000 manats (1950 US dollars). This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan. The press-service of the Azerbaijani MIA has described the actions of the editor-in-chief as a "racket".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 2, the Narimanov District Court of Baku pronounced the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of a three-month arrest against Fikret Faramazoglu (his real surname was Ibishbeyli), the editor-in-chief of the website "Jam.az", who was charged under Article 182 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (extortion).

According to the report issued by the press service of the Azerbaijani MIA and released on July 4, an owner of a restaurant in the Khatai District of Baku filed a complaint to the police. The businessman, whose name was not disclosed, complained that Fikret Faramazoglu "used the website 'Jam.az' and other websites to disseminate the materials damaging the business reputation" of his commercial facility. In this April, according to the press release, Fikret Faramazoglu received 1000 manats (650 US dollars) from the restaurant owner for the removal of the materials from the website. The editor-in-chief has also offered the restaurant owner to pay 5000 manats (3250 US dollars) every month for non-dissemination of such information.

On June 30, Fikret Faramazoglu was caught red-handed when receiving 3000 manats (1950 US dollars) from the restaurant owner.
