In Sochi, commissioning of wastewater treatment facilities postponed because of lack of funding
In Sochi, the second line of the Bzugu treatment facilities cannot be completed because of the lack of funding. This was reported by a company representative.
In 2011, Anatoly Pakhomov, Mayor of Sochi, said that the programme for construction of the Olympic facilities and development of the resort provided for the reconstruction and modernization of the existing treatment facilities and construction of new wastewater treatment plants, including Bzugu treatment facilities.
"The first line operates, but not in its full capacity. The second line has not been constructed at all. Our organization Limited liability Company (LLC) 'Northern Construction Investment Company' was not even able to start the construction of the second line of the Bzugu treatment facilities because of to lack of funds," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Nikolai Zotov, the chief of the section of the wastewater treatment facilities "Bzugu".
Wastewater continues to pollute rivers and coastal waters in Sochi because of the lack of modern treatment facilities. This was noted by Vladimir Ostapuk, the leader of the Public Ecological Council of Sochi.
Vladimir Ostapuk has explained that as a result of the survey of the coastal waters, carried out with the involvement of prosecutors and employees of the sailing centre of Sochi, it has been found out that the raw wastewater is discharged into the Bzugu River and then into the sea. Vladimir Ostapuk has also noted that the discharges of wastewater take place not only there, but throughout the whole resort, including at the "Riviera" city beach, where the Sochi River flows into the Black Sea.
