Initiators of Sergey Gorban's resignation express hope for support from State Duma MPs
In the next days, a petition demanding the resignation of Sergey Gorban, Mayor of Rostov-on-Don, will be sent to the City Duma. This was reported by organizers of the picket held on July 10. This is the first time when the opposition puts forward such a demand. Activists managed to collect about 50 signatures.
On June 30, Rostov was flooded. A 14-year-old girl deceased, and eight other persons were injured. Residents of the city accused the Mayor of failure to perform his duties and asked President Vladimir Putin to dismiss him.
According to Nikolai Kladovoi, one of the organizers of the rally, an activist of the political association "Civil Initiative", the activists are particularly dissatisfied with the "unprofessional urban development in the city, which violates the rights of many citizens."
In turn, Larisa Baskakova, a local resident, has said that she treats the City Mayor "responsible for the poor state of city transport".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, the city residents have expressed their dissatisfaction with the activities of the authorities. The people demanded to maintain the Paramonovskie warehouses and spoke out against the eviction of the puppet theatre from the building in the centre of the city, claimed by the Diocese of Rostov. However, officials refused to listen to the opinion of the city residents.
In winter 2015, the Rostov residents claimed that despite the promises of the authorities, street cleaners failed to remove snow in the city. In 2014, the snowfall caused the collapse in Rostov, and a mode of emergency was introduced.
