Residents of North and South Ossetia pay tribute to victims of 2008 conflict

In North and South Ossetia, people held actions to pay tribute to the memory of the victims killed in the course of the military conflict in August 2008. Residents of Vladikavkaz lit candles in memory near the Saint George Cathedral. In Tskhinvali, the events were attended by relatives of the killed Russian soldiers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the day of August 8 marks eight years passed since the outbreak of hostilities between Georgia and South Ossetia.

In the capital of North Ossetia, more than 50 people, including those whose relatives live in South Ossetia have come to the Saint George Cathedral to honour the memory of the victims.

The action in memory of the victims was organized by the Republican Youth Affairs Committee. In the square near the Saint George Cathedral, staff members of the Youth Affairs Committee posted from burning candles the phrase "Remember. 08.08.08". Besides, a short film about the August war was showed.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has interviewed participants of the action in memory of the victims, and most of them called the August conflict their personal tragedy.

It is politicians and not ordinary people who are guilty of the events which occurred eight years ago. This was stated by Robert Tsindeliani, the leader of the "Ertoba", a Georgian national-cultural society in North Ossetia. He believes that "the time will smooth out everything" and that "the dialogue between nations never stopped."
