HRC member declares inadmissibility of reprisals against Kuban farmers
Andrei Babushkin, a member of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of Russia, has published an open letter to the HRC Chairman with a request to support Kuban farmers detained in the Rostov Region.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, farmers of the Krasnodar Territory started a tractor run to draw the authorities' attention to the raiders' seizures of land plots in the region. On August 22, the participants of the tractor run were blocked by the police in the Aksai District of the Rostov Region, and on August 23, they were detained.
According to the police, the protesters have violated the order of organization of demonstrations, since they failed to get the sanction for their passage through the Rostov Region from the local authorities. 13 detainees were charged with public calls to extremist activity, reports Igor Dudarchuk, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) for the Krasnodar Territory.
Andrei Babushkin, a member of the HRC, has published in his blog the letter addressed to Mikhail Fedotov, Chairman of the Council on Civil Society Development and Human Rights under the Russian President, after he was contacted by Olga Golubyatnikova, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission for the Krasnodar Territory.
The HRC member has asked Mikhail Fedotov to inform about the violation of human rights the Minister of Internal Affairs and the chiefs of the presidential administration and to urge them to punish the guilty persons.
