Opposition doubts effectiveness of new government in Armenia
The appointment of Karen Karapetyan to the post of Armenian Prime Minister will not change the socio-economic situation in the country. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Aram Manukyan, Deputy Chairman of the opposition "Armenian National Congress" (ANC) Party.
The opposition leader believes that the change of personality will not bring fundamental changes in the country and that to implement tough reforms, Armenia needs change of power.
Aram Manukyan doubts that the new Prime Minister will be given carte blanche to carry out reforms.
In his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Armen Martirosyan, Deputy Chairman of the "Heritage" Party, has stated that the appointment of Karen Karapetyan as the Armenian Prime Minister is imposed by Russia.
Armen Martirosyan believes that anti-Russian sentiments in the Armenian society are intensified after four days of the April war in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, Russia uses that way in an attempt to solve its problems in the country, where the only Russian military base in the region is deployed.
The opposition leader has emphasized that the candidacy of Karen Karapetyan is also beneficial to the Armenian authorities.
"The resignation of the government was inevitable for mitigation of the negative public sentiment. However, Karen Karapetyan, who is anyway a representative of the system, will not be able to carry out reforms. To implement social and economic reforms, Armenia needs to change the power," emphasized Armen Martirosyan.
