Trial of "Nardaran case" was interrupted after defendants' protests

On September 23, at the trial of the so-called "Nardaran case", the defendants protested against removal from the courtroom of Abbas Guseinov, the deputy chairman of the movement "Muslim Unity". The judge was forced to stop the session.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 26, 2015, 14 people were detained in the city of Nardaran, including Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim Unity". In the course of mass riots that broke out in the city, seven persons were killed.

On September 23, at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, advocates asked Judge Alovsat Abbasov to ensure the presence of Abbas Guseinov, as witnesses' testimonies relate to him directly, said Aiten Mamedova, the judicial observer of the newspaper "Azadlyg".

On September 22, Guseinov was removed from the courtroom by the judge, after he spat at the witness Elnur Sharifov, an employee of the Sabunchu District Police Department.

On September 23, the judge stated that there is no need for Guseinov to take part in the trial. The judge offered Guseinov to write an appeal with repentance of his conduct.

The advocate Yalchin Imanov, who is defending Bagirzade and four other defendants, said that, despite the appointment on August 26 a forensic medical examination in connection with complaints of torture, experts have not yet examined the defendants.

Formally, the judge has the right to remove Guseinov from the courtroom, said the advocate Fariz Namazly.

According to his story, in relation to the defendants Article 6 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention for Human Rights (ECHR) is violated.
