Valentina Cherevatenko receives Anna Politkovskaya Award

The international NGO "RAW in War" has awarded Valentina Cherevatenko, the chair of the organization "Women of the Don", the Anna Politkovskaya Award for support of victims of armed conflicts.

The NGO "RAW in War" (Reach All Women in WAR) has estimated the support provided by Valentina Cherevatenko to civilians, "who still suffer from the armed conflicts in Northern Caucasus, Armenia, Georgia, and Ukraine.

"Valentina works with people who got severe psychological traumas as a result of conflicts in the region, despite the risks to herself and her organization," states the report release by the NGO "RAW in War".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 27, the advocate of Valentina Cherevatenko got a resolution on institution against the human rights defender of the criminal case of fraudulent evasion of the duties defined by the Russian laws concerning NGOs, carrying out functions of foreign agents. On August 30, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized the criminal proceeding against Valentina Cherevatenko as politically motivated.
