Director General of "Mahachkalavodokanal" arrested

The Sovietsky Court of Makhachkala has placed Magomed Murtazaliev, Director General of the OJSC "Mahachkalavodokanal" (water supply and sewage authority), behind bars for two months, having accused him of rendering services, which fail to meet safety requirements, said a source from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Murtazaliev was detained after the mass poisoning of residents of Makhachkala by supplied water.

On October 27, residents of Makhachkala complained about supply of dirty water after the works at the Miatlinskaya HPP. Since that day, reports began to arrive about hospitalization of locals with symptoms of acute intestinal infection. As of November 2, 618 people received medical treatment in hospital regime and continue treatment at home.

"The court has upheld the investigators' motion to arrest Murtazaliev. He is charged under point 'b', Part 2 of Article 238 (manufacture, storage, transportation or sale of goods and products, execution of works or rendering of services that fail to meet safety requirements) of the Russian Criminal Code," Yegor Balashov, the spokesman of the Investigating Department (ID) for Dagestan of the ICRF, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
