Number of tuberculous patients grows in Chechnya
600 people with a serious form of tuberculosis have been revealed in Chechnya for 10 months of 2004. "Tuberculosis is one of the most serious problems in the republic today. More than a half of the sick are far gone. Their lungs decay, which has irreversible consequences. One should take into account that tuberculosis is an illness spreading with a catastrophic speed," a doctor of a T.B. prophylactic centre in Grozny said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent.
According to him, doctors do not cope with the task of taking preventive measures against tuberculosis. The T.B. prophylactic center lacks for necessary equipment and medicines. Besides, many people ill with tuberculosis turn to doctors when it is almost improssible to cure the illness. And the exact number of T.B. carriers has not been established so far.
