Trial of "Nardaran case" interrupted after defendants' protest

At the trial of the "Nardaran case", the court refused to grant the defence's motions demanding to examine testimonies and summon witnesses for questioning, including Ramil Usubov, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). After that, the defendants expressed their protest against the judge's actions and refused to participate in the trial, which was then interrupted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the trial of the "Nardaran case" began in Baku on August 3, 2016. On October 21, Talekh Bagirzade, one of the defendants and the leader of the "Muslim Unity" Movement, and 17 other defendants stated beatings at the SIZO (pre-trial prison); and four out of five policemen, questioned as witnesses, failed to confirm the defendants' participation in the riots.

At the court session on December 14, Yalchin Imanov, an advocate, who is defending Bagirzade and four other defendants, petitioned to summon Ramil Usubov, the MIA head, for questioning as a witness. The advocate has motivated his petition by inconsistencies of the minister's statements, made a few days after the special operation in Nardaran, with the materials of the case files.

Ramil Usubov also said that the special operation had been carried out by the order of the President of the country, said Imanov.

However, the judge has rejected all the petitions.
