Prosecutor's Office takes control over situation with Mokok fire victims

The Dagestani Prosecutor's Office carries out a check to find out whether names of residents of the village of Mokok located in the Tsuntin District were legally withdrawn from the list of persons affected by the fire which occurred in August 2016.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that as a result of the fire which occurred in the village of Mokok on August 21, 2016, 480 people, including 190 children, were deprived of housing. On August 22, Dagestan announced opening a centre for collecting items for fire victims. In Moscow, the Böll Foundation also organized collection of items to help fire victims. On Knowledge Day, Mokok schoolchildren gathered in a dilapidated school building. During the rural gathering held on January 7, local residents expressed their willingness to go on hunger strike. They stated that they had no hope to receive compensation for loss of property. The Mokok villagers also noted that the main reasons for their dissatisfaction were in the fact that not all people affected by the fire were included in the lists of fire victims.

"On behalf of the Prosecutor of Dagestan, the Prosecutor's Office is engaged in a check to find out whether names of residents of the village of Mokok located in the Tsuntin District were legally withdrawn from the list of persons affected by the fire which occurred in August 2016," reports today the website of the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office.
