Passes to frontier zone cancelled for citizens of South Ossetia

Citizens of South Ossetia have the right to stay close to the border with Georgia, having only a passport or a service ID on them.

For foreign citizens, the period for receiving passes to the frontier zone has been reduced from 30 to 10 days, said Valery Zozulya, the head of the Frontier Service.

Besides, citizens, living in the frontier zone as such, no longer need to go to the frontier unit for permits for doing their businesses within the 100-meter band, the "Sputnik South Ossetia" reports.

By abolishing the need to obtain passes to the frontier zone, the authorities have satisfied numerous requests of local residents, the RES quotes President Leonid Tibilov as saying.

Let us remind you that on July 1, 2016, residents of the village of Velit, Znaur District of South Ossetia, stated at their protest action that they feel uncomfortable at receiving and carrying passes to the frontier zone.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 30, 2016, South Ossetia stated attempts of the Georgian party, which refuses to recognize the statehood of South Ossetia, to destroy frontier structures.
