On January 23-29, 2017, four persons killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of January 23-29, 2017, eight persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, four were killed, and four others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

According to the law enforcement authorities, all the killed people were suspected members of the armed underground: one in Chechnya and three – in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

At night of January 25, a resident of the ChechenRepublic, suspected of involvement in the armed underground, was brought to the Leninsky ROVD (District Interior Division) in Grozny. During the interrogation, the suspect pretended to lose consciousness. Then, he suddenly seized a service weapon of one of the policemen and opened fire. As a result, four law enforcers were wounded. The man was killed during the shooting. The condition of one of the wounded policemen is estimated as serious. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the ChechenRepublic has denied the reports that four law enforcers were wounded at the Leninsky ROVD in Grozny and that the attacker was killed.

At about 10:00 Moscow time of January 27, in Malgobek (Ingushetia), policemen tried to stop a suspicious Lada Priora car with blacked-out windows to check the driver's documents. However, the driver ignored their demand. The policemen chased the car, during which fire was opened on the police car. As a result of the incident, no policemen were injured. The attackers left the car and fled to some unknown destination. Without delay, the police identified a 28-year-old resident of Malgobek, suspected of involvement in the incident. During the search of his household, law enforcers discovered and seized two speedloaders for Makarov pistols, loaded with 16 rounds.

Special and counterterrorist operations

At 8:20 a.m. Moscow time of January 29, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in Khasavyurt. During the operative and search actions, law enforcers discovered a group of militants who had sought refuge in a private household. The house was cordoned off. The militants refused to lay down their weapons, and then law enforcers began storming the house. During the armed clash, three suspected militants were killed. At 3:10 p.m. Moscow time, the CTO legal regime in Khasavyurt was lifted in connection with the completion of all operational activities.
