"Congress of Karachay People" stands for direct election of head of KChR
The "Congress of Karachay People" in Cherkessk gathered 205 delegates. They voted for the return of direct election of the republic’s head and heads of all levels of executive power in the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the law that grants the subjects of the Russian Federation the right to abolish direct elections of their heads was signed by Russian President on April 2, 2013. After that, all republics of Northern Caucasus, except for Chechnya, abolished direct elections. On September 18, 2016, the MPs of the KChR unanimously re-elected Rashid Temrezov as the head of the republic.
The "Congress of Karachay People" is a regional public organization whose goal is to protect the rights of Karachay nationals and to contribute to the strengthening of peace and friendship among nations.
"Without direct elections of heads of all levels of executive power build a real civil society in the KChR is impossible," says the resolution of the Congress.
Also, the delegates demanded to solve the issue of complete rehabilitation of repressed nations. They paid special attention to problems in land relations, which, according to their version, acquire an explosive nature.
