Dagestani truckers protest against "Platon" system (+video)

Today, Dagestani truckers have launched a protest against the increased travel tariffs within the "Platon" system, as Rustam Malamagomedov, the leader of the "Association of Dagestani Truckers", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Since today, we stop making routes; and let the people and the authorities understand what kind of problems our protest may create. Let's see what they will do with the empty store shelves," said Rustam Malamagomedov, noting that so far truckers stay at home. "We don’t plan to gather in one place, or organize an auto rally, as before; we want first to discuss the situation. However, if we decide that the action should look like the earlier ones, then most likely the gathering points will be Kizlyar, Kayakent and Khasavyurt," said Mr Malamagomedov.

Let us remind you that the "Platon" system of collecting fees from heavy trucks weighing over 12 tons for travelling on federal highways was launched in Russia in November 2015 and triggered discontent of carriers – truckers from the regions of the North-Caucasian and Southern Federal Districts (NCFD and SFD) took active part in protests.
