In Dagestan, more than 80 drivers join truckers' protest in village of Tukhchar

More than 80 heavy vehicles stay in front of the village of Tukhchar in the Novolak District. According to the truck drivers on strike, they intend to continue their strike until the cancellation of the "Platon" system.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 27, Russian truck drivers resumed protests with the demand to cancel the "Platon" system introduced to collect fees from drivers of heavy trucks for travelling on federal roads. In particular, the protest actions were held in Volgograd, Astrakhan, Baksan, North Ossetia, and Karachay-Cherkessia. The town of Manas became one of the main places for gathering of truck drivers in Dagestan. The police opposed the protest action.

According to one of the participants of the protest action in Tukhchar, during the past three months, he stopped working on a truck because of "huge expenses too high for an ordinary truck driver."

Earlier, on March 30, the authorities promised to solve the problems of truck drivers striking in Dagestan. As a result of negotiations with the involvement of the protestors, it was decided to leave one checkpoint in the territory of Dagestan and to review the conditions for issuing of admission cards for international transportation, the Dagestani Ministry of Transport reports.
