Dagestani truckers threaten to hold new actions in case negotiations fail
A commission has been set up in Dagestan with the participation of officials and members of the initiative group of protesters against the “Platon” system, intended to draft decisions on truckers’ demands. Should the solution of problems be delayed, the carriers will again gather in their protest camp, said the truckers.
On March 27, Russian truck drivers resumed mass protests. They demand to abolish the transport tax, reduce fuel excises and cancel the "Platon" system introduced to collect tolls from drivers of heavy trucks on federal roads.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 28, truckers from Dagestan, after their meeting with top officials of republic’s authorities, decided to wind up their the camp near Manas; now, the initiative group of truckers will continue talks with the authorities.
According to organizers' estimates, a total of 2-3000 persons took part in the meeting, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
In response to the demands of the meeting, the authorities promised to fulfil those of them, which depend only of the republic’s intervention; while the rest of them, according to the speakers, require additional consideration at the federal level.
Besides, as explained by truckers’ activists, they reserve the right to restart the protest camp in case there is no solution to their earlier formulated demands.
