Residents of Makhachkala treat situation with Akhmat Kadyrov Streets as absurd

At present, in the capital of Dagestan, there are now two streets named after Akhmat Kadyrov. Meanwhile, local residents treat the decision of the City Mayor's Office to rename Kotrov Street as strange and ambiguous. According to a source from the Makhachkala Parliament, the City Mayor's Office flounders in its decisions and wants to cancel the decision to rename a section of Ordzhonikidze Street in honour of Akhmat Kadyrov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a source from the Dagestani government said that "the instruction to assign a new name to Kotrov Street was issued by Dagestani leader Ramazan Abdulatipov."

"I believe it would be more correct to call the streets in Makhachkala in honour of natives of Dagestan," states a resident of a house in Dalgat Street, which crosses Kotrov Street.

Akhmed, a resident of a house in Kotrov Street, has also noted that "he does not see any sense in renaming the streets with old Soviet names."

"However, it would be great if the streets were named after people who left a sign in the history of the republic and from whom the future generation could take an example," noted the local resident.

Until 1924, Kotrov Street was Persian Street. Then it was renamed in honour of Ivan Kotrov, a revolutionary, involved in the struggle to establish Soviet power in Dagestan. In March 2017, in Dagestan, the initiative group sent a letter to the leader of the republic with a request to rename Kotrov Street in honour of Khachilaev brothers.
