Road accident ends up in shooting
The Information Centre of the Society for Russian-Chechen Friendship in Nizhniy Novgorod has received new information about a clash between Russian servicemen and Chechen policemen that took place near Berkart-Yurt, Grozny rural district, Chechnya, on 21 March 2005.
Russian and Chechen media say the clash began after a federal truck which was part of a military column had run over a local's cow. The police officers would try to stop the column and detain the man guilty of the accident, which resulted in an armed conflict. Two police officers, one Russian serviceman, and two local residents were killed.
A correspondent of the Society has been able to confirm this information. In response to a legitimate request to stop movement, the military opened fire. The death of two police officers and one Russian serviceman has also been confirmed.
