Main award of "Kinotavr" short film contest goes to filmmaker from Karachay-Cherkessia

In Sochi, the "Kinotavr" Film Festival has summed up the results of the short film contest, and the main prize went to the film "Lalay-Balalay" directed by Ruslan Bratov, a native of Karachay-Cherkessia. Besides, the film was also awarded the special prize of the "Takoe Kino" (Such Cinema) programme, and the film director was awarded one million roubles to shoot the short film "From Point A".

The film "Lalay-Balalay" represents a 13-minute comic-lyrical sketch from life of four men in a state of alcoholic intoxication who decided to ride a carousel at an amusement park at night.

The second most important prize, the jury's diploma "For the poetic intonation of the film", was awarded to film director Lado Kvananiya. The events of his film "The First" are dated in 1961, when a village girl finds in a forest an astronaut who returned after a test flight.

According to the film director, he was born in Moscow, and later he left for Georgia and "lived there for a long time up to the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict."

Young filmmakers note the importance of the short film contest of the "Kinotavr" film festival for the development of new Russian cinema.

On June 10, there was a Russian premiere of the film "Hostages" directed by Rezo Gigineishvili, a joint production of Russia, Georgia, and Poland. The film reconstructs the events of aircraft hijacking in Soviet Georgia, committed in 1983 by a group of young people who wanted to escape from the USSR.
