Muftiate of Chechnya sets up mandatory zakat of 100 roubles
In Chechnya, theologians determined the amount of obligatory zakat (alms) to be paid by believers in the month of Ramadan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that for Muslims of the Russian regions in the south of the country, including Chechnya and Dagestan, the fasting of Ramadan began on May 27.
Zakat is a religious tax for Muslims, the collection of which is prescribed in the Koran, and the amount and rules of taxation are developed in Sharia. Zakat is one of the five major pillars of Islam. Zakat al-Fitr becomes mandatory after sunset on the last day of Ramadan.
The last week of the month of Ramadan is on, and on June 19, the theologians set up the amount of Zakat al-Fitr mandatory for the believers, reported an official from the Muftiate of Chechnya.
"This year, Zakat al-Fitr will make three kilograms of grain, or 100 roubles per family member. As a rule, zakat is distributed to orphans or families or elders in need," the Caucasian Knot correspondent was told by the official from the Muftiate of Chechnya.
Till present, the end date of the month of Ramadan has not been set up yet. "This year, the last day of the month of Ramadan will be approximately on June 24 or 25. It depends on the appearance of a new moon in the sky," said the official from the Muftiate of Chechnya.
