Authorities of Dagestan ignore conflict in Leninaul
In Dagestan, the Council of Chechens Elders has recorded a video message to express the indignation over the conflict in the village of Leninaul and criticized the actions of the Dagestani government. According to the Council of Chechens Elders, the authorities are responsible for the tension which resulted in a fight in Leninaul.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a mass fight in the village of Leninaul in the Kazbek District occurred on June 25. The fight resulted from the tense relationship between members of the Avar compact settlement and Chechens because of a dispute over land, local residents report.
According to Khamid Gamzatov, the secretary of the Council of Chechen Elders in Dagestan, Chechen people want to live in peace with other nations with equal rights, including with the Avar people, but the Dagestani government interferes in the situation. Khamid Gamzatov has noted that similar fights occur in Leninaul every year, while the authorities of Dagestan do not try to investigate the situation and prevent the development of the conflict.
In the video posted on YouTube, Khamid Gamzatov appeals to the authorities of Dagestan and Russia with the demand to investigate the incident, punish the persons guilty of the conflict in Leninaul, and consider the land issue.
