US Department of State calls President Putin's visit to Abkhazia "unacceptable"
The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Abkhazia violates the principles of the Geneva discussions on Transcaucasia. This was declared by Heather Nauert, Spokesperson for the US Department of State.
According to political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", President Vladimir Putin met Abkhazian President Raul Khadjimba and expressed him support in connection with the recent events in the republic.
"The United States requires Russia to place its troops to pre-war positions in accordance with the ceasefire agreement of 2008 and to refuse recognition of the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia," stated Heather Neuert as quoted by the "Interfax".
Besides, the Spokesperson for the US Department of State has also noted that the United States confirms the territorial integrity of Georgia within the borders recognized internationally.
Let us remind you that on 11 July, Russian tourist Andrei Kabanov was killed in an armed attack on the seashore in Abkhazia.
