Georgian President announces date for local elections
In Georgia, elections to the local self-administration bodies will be held on October 21. This was reported by Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili.
The President scheduled the elections to the local self-administration bodies, as well as the elections of mayors and heads of district administrations, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The act to schedule the elections was sent to the Prime Minister for signature, announced Giorgi Margvelashvili on the air of the "Rustavi 2" TV Channel.
It should be noted that seven candidates have been nominated to the position of the Tbilisi Mayor, including Kakha Kaladze, the former Minister of Energy, from the "Georgian Dream-Democratic Movement" Party, Zaal Udumashvili, a journalist of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel, from the "United National Movement" (UNM), MP Elene Khoshtariya, from the "European Georgia" Party. Besides, Aleko Elisashvili is to run for the position of the Tbilisi Mayor as an independent Tbilisi Sakrebulo Deputy. The "Movement of Construction" Party nominated Tengiz Shergelashvili as the fifth candidate to become the Tbilisi Mayor. Irma Inashvili became the candidate for the "Alliance of Patriots" Party, and the "United Democratic Movement" and "Free Georgia" Parties nominated Kakha Kukava as their candidate.
