Dagestanis celebrate Eid al-Adha
On September 1, in Makhachkala, more than 10,000 people came to the central Juma mosque to attend a holiday prayer on the occasion of the celebration of Eid al-Adha. After the prayer, many people performed the rite of sacrifice.
The Sacrifice Feast of Eid al-Adha is celebrated 70 days after the holiday of Eid al-Fitr and falls on the 10th day of the sacred month of Dhu al-Hijjah. The celebration takes place within three days and marks the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Residents of Dagestan interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent have reported how they celebrated the holiday.
According to Ramazan, a resident of Makhachkala, Eid al-Adha is a holiday which is celebrated in a special way in his family. The man has noted that the main attribute of the holiday is a ritual sacrifice. According to the man interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, for the third year in a row he trusts the ritual to the local charitable foundation "Nadezhda" (Hope).
"They perform the rite of sacrifice without unnecessary bothering and bring me home my portion of meat," Ramazan said.
According to him, this is a good opportunity for those city residents who do not have the conditions for performing the rite of sacrifice.
On that day, in Dagestan, there were about 50 places for sacrifices.
"The day turned out to be tense, since I have a son who is a schoolboy, and I was also engaged in festive efforts: I had to cut a sheep, prepare meat and receive guests," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Gamzat Magomedov, another resident of Makhachkala. He believes that if possible, the ritual of sacrifice should be performed at home and necessarily by the head of the family.
