MIA: 78% of Chechen population attend rally in Grozny
Today, 1.1 million people have come to a rally in central Grozny to support Muslims of Myanmar. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya. According to the "Rosstat" (Federal State Statistics Service), in total, the population of the republic reaches about 1.4 million residents.
According to the calculations made by the Grozny Mayor's Office, delegations from Dagestan, Ingushetia and other regions also took part in the action.
It should be noted that in Chechnya, Muslims who do not profess the traditional concept of Islam are subjected to persecution. According to the report prepared by the international human rights organization "Human Rights Watch" (HRW), in 2016, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov stated that there were no place for Salafis in the republic and demanded from the local law enforcers to punish those who failed to profess from the Sufi concept of Islam.
