Putin allows Kadyrov not to agree with Kremlin's position
There is no Fronde on the part of the head of Chechnya in connection with his words about the events in Myanmar, since every person has the right to have his own opinion, the Russian President has stated.
Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov threatened to oppose Russian authorities if they took the side of Myanmar Muslims’ persecutors.
Kadyrov, like any citizen, has the right to have his own position, Putin said at a press conference today. "I assure you that there is no Fronde (confrontation) on the part of the Chechen leader; I ask everyone to calm down, everything is in due order", the RIA “Novosti” quotes Russian President as saying.
Kadyrov understands that his survival depends on Putin; therefore, he constantly declares his devotion to President, Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, an expert on Chechnya, Project Director for Northern Caucasus of the International Crisis Group (ICG) and a Board Member of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial HRC”, told the "Caucasian Knot" in March 2016.
Kadyrov "voices out not only his own interests, but also the anti-Western positions of a part of Russian society," says Sergey Markedonov, Associate Professor at the division of foreign regional studies and foreign policy at the Russian State Humanities University (RSHU).
"That is, of the people, who are not only ready to oppose the US’ and EU’s course, but also favour ‘the unique civilization choice.’ And this is one of the consequences of the special status of the republic within the Russian Federation," the website of the Moscow Carnegie Centre quoted Mr Markedonov as saying.
In his opinion, this Chechnya’s status could benefit Russia "as a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional country," and Kadyrov "with his image of a ‘Muslims’ defender’ as a partner in negotiations with an Afghan general or Arab sheikhs is more trustworthy than a graduate of a Moscow university set up to supervise the Middle East direction."
