Ilham Aliev pardons blogger Alexander Lapshin
Today, the order of the President of Azerbaijan to pardon Alexander Lapshin has come into force.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 20, the Baku court found Alexander Lapshin guilty of illegally crossing the Azerbaijani border and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony. On August 14, the Alexander Lapshin's defence refused an appeal in favour of extraditing the blogger to Israel.
Alexander Lapshin is a citizen of Russia, Ukraine, and Israel. The criminal prosecution of Alexander Lapshin in Azerbaijan was launched in connection with his visits to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Today, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev has signed an order to pardon Alexander Lapshin, the "Interfax-Azerbaijan" reports.
The order comes into force from the day of its signing, the "Trend" reports.
