Two surrender, reluctant to continue
A local resident, b. 1975, applied to the Federal Security Service Department and the local operations department of the Federal Service for the Execution of Sentences of the Russian Justice Ministry in Chechnya's Itum-Kale district. He explained he was a member of field commander Doku Umarov's group since 1998, but now wanted to give himself up to law enforcement agencies and counted on humane treatment on the part of the Russian legislation, Regnum news agency says. He also explained he was tired of hiding and taking part in criminal activities.
A resident of Katyr-Yurt, Achkhoi-Martan district, b. 1983, came to law enforcement agencies. He said he was a member of a group under Doku Umarov's general command. He joined the group yielding to the influence of recruiters who promised to pay much money for committing terrorist acts against officials, law enforcement agents and federal servicemen. However, the group was solely involved in murders and robberies of local residents, according to the young man. This was what prompted him to give up criminal activities.
