20 militant units neutralized in Northern Caucasus in 2017
Today, the National Antiterrorist Committee has reported that since earlier 2017, the law enforcement agencies have stopped the activities of 120 members of the so-called "dormant militant units" in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that tonight, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime has been introduced in the Shamil District of Dagestan. In a shootout on the outskirts of the Teletl village, law enforcers killed two members of the "Shamil" grouping, involved in murders and extortions, the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reports.
Today, the NAC has held a meeting in Moscow to discuss the counteraction to terrorism in the NCFD. The NAC's meeting was also attended by the chiefs of the North-Caucasian regions and officials from the federal authorities, the press service of the NAC reported.
At the meeting, FSB director Alexander Bortnikov, the chairman of the NAC, has noted there is a tendency to the decrease in terrorist activities in Northern Caucasus.
According to Alexander Bortnikov, in 2017, a "number of crimes of terrorist nature" were prevented, and activities of 20 "dormant militant units" and over 120 of their members, mostly young people, were stopped, reports the NAC in the message posted on its website.
