“Rosgvardia” reports six killed militant leaders in Northern Caucasus
In spring and summer of 2017, 32 members of the armed underground, including six militant leaders, were killed in Northern Caucasus as a result of counterterrorist operations (CTOs). Also, 133 kilograms of explosives were confiscated; and 35 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were neutralized, the “Rosgvardia” (National Guard of the Russian Federation) has reported today.
Today, the CTO outcomes in the territory of Northern Caucasus of the Russian Federation were summed up at the headquarters of the United Troops Grouping.
According to the Grouping, in total, they found and detained 1118 persons declared wanted, including 160 people from the international and 211 from the federal wanted lists.
However, they did not specify the months, covered by this statistics.
According to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources, in Quarter 2 of 2017, that is, from April 1 to June 30, 26 persons fell victim to the armed confrontation in Northern Caucasus. However, this figure cannot reflect the number of victims with 100% accuracy. Not all the data about victims gets into news reports.
According to the "Caucasian Knot", which referred to open sources, in March-August 2017, at least three alleged militant leaders were declared dead in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).
