“Transparency International-Georgia” points to violations prior to Georgian elections

In the course of preparation for the municipal elections in Georgia, facts of using administrative resources, promotion by officials of the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party in social networks and in budget-funded organizations were registered. This is stated in the report of the non-governmental organization (NGO) “Transparency International-Georgia” (TIG).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that municipal elections in Georgia are scheduled for October 21. Citizens will elect members of Sakrebulos (bodies of local self-government), city mayors and heads of district administrations, including in Tbilisi, the country’s capital. 22 political parties take part in the elections.

According to TIG, from June 1 to October 10, 2017, 16 complaints were submitted to election commissions; and fact of illegal agitation for the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party were revealed.

In his turn, Irakli Kobakhidze, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, said on air of the “Rustavi-2” TV that the TIG had pursued its own political interests.

Earlier, leaders of 14 non-parliamentary parties of Georgia reported to international observers that the “Georgian Dream” was using its administrative resources and pressure on opposition candidates.
