Saakashvili repeatedly asks asylum in Ukraine

The former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has repeatedly, this time in person, filed an application for granting him additional protection status in Ukraine, Markiyan Galabala, his advocate, has stated today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mikhail Saakashvili lost his Ukrainian citizenship in July, but on September 10, he returned to the country, breaking through the Polish-Ukrainian border. On October 11, the former president of Georgia asked for asylum in Ukraine, but the State Migration Service refused to grant the status to him.

In his homeland, the former Georgian President has been accused of several crimes, including embezzlement of state funds and abuse of office.

"Yesterday, on October 26, he [Saakashvili] personally submitted his application to the Migration Service of the Kiev Region," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Mr Galabala as saying.

So far, Mikhail Saakashvili himself has not confirmed this information.
