Experts on Caucasus admit Chechen trace in Okueva's murder

Amina Okueva was not a swore enemy of Ramzan Kadyrov, but the version about the Chechen trace in her murder can not be ruled out, said Orkhan Djemal and Mikhail Roschin. In the opinion of Svetlana Gannushkina, a human rights defender, the Chechen trace in this murder is obvious.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 30, Adam Osmaev was wounded, and his wife Amina Okueva was killed, when their car was shelled near Kiev. The incident is being investigated as a contract murder.

Orkhan Djemal, a journalist of the "Forbes" magazine, has noted that "first of all, Osmaev was Kadyrov's enemy," not his wife. According to his version, Okueva did not take part in the Chechen campaigns.

However, he did not rule out that Okueva "could become Kadyrov's enemy because of her husband." "But involving a woman in a conflict is not the Chechen habit," Mr Djemal has added.

The journalist has recalled that in 2009 several publications reported that there was a list of Kadyrov's enemies containing 300 persons, whom they planned to kill.

Mikhail Roschin, a senior researcher at the Centre for Studying Central Asia, Caucasus and the Urals and Volga Region of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has suggested that "the target of the attack was precisely Okueva." In his view, given the instability of the region, customers and performers of the murder will be never found.

Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the "Civil Assistance" Committee, treats Okueva's death as "a tragedy." "Obviously, people, who are trying to find refuge from Kadyrov's regime in the neighbouring country, are unprotected there as Russians in Russia," she said. In her opinion, "the Chechen trace in the crime is obvious."

Amina Okueva herself had claimed that she "regularly received threats from Chechens living in Russia and loyal to the authoritarian leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov."
