Supporters of army service postponement call on Yerevan students to go on strike
Students of the Yerevan State University (YSU) refused to stop their strike with demand to withdraw a bill on cancellation of the army service postponement. Today, they have marched to other higher education institutions to encourage other students to join the protest action.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 7, during the action at their university building, about 500 students from the Yerevan State University (YSU) said they would not attend lectures until the bill on cancellation of the army service postponement was withdrawn from the Parliament. Yesterday, on November 8, the protest action at the Yerevan State University turned into a march which ended near the building of the Armenian Ministry for Public Education, where the students on protest demanded a meeting with the Minister of Education.
At the today's protest action, started at 9:30 a.m. Yerevan time in front of the YSU building, a female student has stated: "a strike is the only method for our voice to be heard." The students have also declared that they will be persistent in their demand and the protest actions will not stop until the government withdraws the bill.
After a while the activists have started walking through the streets of the city. They go from one higher education institution to another and call on students to join the protest action. Further, according to the organizers, the activists plan to go to the government building and likely demand a meeting with the Prime Minister.
