After meeting Prime Minister, Yerevan students refuse to stop strike

Today, Karen Karapetyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, met a group of striking Yerevan students and asked them to wait till the adoption of the law that would cancel the postponement of the military service. The students, who demand the revocation of the bill, announced that they would continue their protest actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 7 about 500 students of the Yerevan State University (YSU) went on a strike and refused to attend classes until the bill intended to abolish students' postponement of the military service was recalled. This morning, about 400 protesters marched in Yerevan, urging students from other higher schools to join the strike.

Today, when meeting a group of striking students, Karen Karapetyan asked them to submit their demands after the bill was adopted.

David Petrosyan, the coordinator of the student group "For the Development of Science", has stressed that the strikers will never agree to the bill in its existing form. "The Prime Minister invited us to present our demands after the final adoption of the bill by the National Assembly; however, we believe that they should be considered before that and included into the final version of the bill," the "Newsarmenia.am" quotes Mr Petrosyan as saying.

After their meeting with the Prime Minister, students announced that they would continue the strike and protest actions.
