ECtHR communicates complaint about extrajudicial execution in Ingushetia

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has sent questions to the government of Russia on the complaint of a woman from Ingushetia about the extrajudicial execution of her son Muslim Kuriev, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has informed that on May 4, the HRC "Memorial" reported on filing a complaint to the ECtHR on behalf of Leyla Kurieva, whose son was declared killed in the course of a counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted on March 22, 2014, but, according to the woman and rights defenders, he had fallen victim to extrajudicial execution, when he was at home under the supervision of law enforcers.

In defence of Leyla Kurieva's interests, lawyers of the HRC "Memorial" complained about the violation of Articles 2 (right to life), 3 (prohibition of inhuman and cruel treatment), 8 (right to respect for private and family life) and 13 (right to an effective remedy) of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (known as the ECHR).

On November 2, the ECtHR communicated Leyla Kurieva's complaint versus Russia, the HRC "Memorial" has reported today, adding that "the government of Russia should... answer the ECtHR's questions listed in the communication and send documents back before February 28, 2018."
