Fifteen people detained near Salafi mosque in Makhachkala

Law enforcers treat the detention of 15 Muslims after their regular Friday prayer (namaz) in a Makhachkala mosque as a preventive action. All the detainees were released, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has assured.

According to Idris Yusupov, a Dagestani journalist, such detentions near the Salafi mosque, located in General Omarov Street, occur every Friday. He was taken to the police on December 22 after he tried to video such law enforcers' raid near the mosque. They accused the journalist of disobeying the police, but the court returned the case demanding to eliminate violations and liberated Yusupov.

On December 15, another raid was conducted near the same mosque. Law enforcers detained the believers with the appearance typical for practicing Muslims, eyewitnesses said. Two or three people were detained, the MIA has reported.

Today, a mobile post was deployed near the mosque, with about 10 policemen in it, Mr Yusupov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. However, as he said, he did not see anyone to be detained or checked.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
