Relatives of victims of Tu-154 crash near Sochi demand insurance payments

Relatives of those perished one year ago in the air accident near Sochi received compulsory payments; and now they demand compensations from the insurance company for loss of breadwinners, their advocate has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Tu-154 owned by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) made a flight to Syria and fell down into the sea near Sochi on December 25, 2016. All the 92 people on board perished.

Payments to relatives have been made; each of the 156 victims received about two million roubles, Igor Trunov, a victims’ advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on December 29.

"Those were compulsory payments to casualties’ relatives; however, besides, there is mandatory insurance, which includes such things as the loss of a breadwinner, moral harm and quite a lot of other damages, the advocate has added.

He explained that relatives now demand from the "Sogaz" Insurance Company lump sums as compensations for the above damages. "Should the insurer refuse to pay, victims may go to court. Most of the applicants claims compensations for loss of their breadwinners," Mr Trunov said, without specifying the number of such claimants.
