Fourteen people detained near Salafi mosque in Makhachkala

Law enforcers explain the detentions of parishioners of the mosque located in Omarov Street by the prophylactic measure.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that believers of the Salafi mosque located in General Omarov (former Hungarian Warriors) Street in Makhachkala are regularly detained when they come there for their Friday prayer. A week ago, on January 5, ten Muslims were detained there.

Rights defenders treat these regular detentions at the mosque as a form of pressure on the Dagestani Salafi congregation and as a catalyst for radicalization.

Today, 14 people were taken to the police today; all the detainees have already been released, the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs has stated.

According to the journalist Idris Yusupov, policemen stopped pedestrians and car drivers. "They have officially stated that it was a preventive action aimed at searching for weapons and drugs," said the journalist.

Maksud, a parishioner of the mosque, has added that those who were already on the prophylactic register were not checked by the police.

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer.
