Miralioglu announces his intent to run for Azerbaijani presidency

The "Classical" Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (CPFPA) has announced its participation in the upcoming presidential election. Its leader, the 60-year-old Mirmakhmud Miralioglu, was nominated as a candidate for presidency at the today's session of the Supreme Majlis of the party, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Mr Miralioglu expressed his hope that the participation of oppositional candidates in the presidential election "will activate the electorate."

"Despite the absence of even minimal conditions for democratic elections in the country, our party decided to take part in the campaign. We believe that the participation of the opposition in the election should activate the electorate," the party leader told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The CPFPA is ready to cooperate with other oppositional forces in order to ensure the democratic nature of the election, Mirmakhmud Miralioglu has stressed.

The voting at the presidential election in Azerbaijan will be held on October 17, 2018.
