Russia outstrips Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan by corruption level
In late 2017, in the "Corruption Perception Index", compiled by the Transparency International (TI), Georgia took the 46th place, while Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia are behind the first hundred.
In 2017, Georgia was the least corrupt country in the Caucasus, in equal terms with Malta. According to experts, the corruption level in Georgia is slightly higher than in Spain and the Czech Republic, but lower than in Italy and South Korea.
Georgia is followed Armenia (the 107th place) and Azerbaijan (the 122nd place.
Russia took the 133rd place along with Honduras and Kyrgyzstan.
In total, the rating includes 180 countries. Its leaders are unchanged for the last few years: New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Switzerland. The last ones in the list are Somalia and South Sudan.
The TI compiles its index based on the studies of international organizations such as the World Bank and the Freedom House.
