Female activist with posters about Nemtsov detained in Krasnodar

In the centre of Krasnodar, law enforcers have detained Yana Antonova, an activist, with two posters, when she was about to hold a solo picket in memory of Boris Nemtsov, who was killed three years ago.

Boris Nemtsov was shot dead on February 27, 2015, in Moscow. On July 13, 2017, the court sentenced five natives of Chechnya, accused of killing Boris Nemtsov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 25, in many cities of Russia, people held actions in memory of Boris Nemtsov.

Ms Antonova was detained at the corner of Krasnaya and Gimnazicheskaya Streets in central Krasnodar at about 7:00 p.m. Moscow time, the advocate Mikhail Benyash told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The activist herself has confirmed her detention in a telephone conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to her story, she was taken to a police station.

"I am outraged by the murder of Boris Nemtsov; and today I decided to honour his memory with a solo picket in order to remind my fellow citizens about this barbarous crime. I made two posters with Boris' photos and inscriptions: 'Heroes Never Die" and "We Remember". I decided to hold a picket in the centre of Krasnodar, which is always crowded; I took a taxi to the crossroads of Krasnaya and Gimnazicheskaya Streets. As soon as I got out of the taxi, two [law enforcers] came up to me and demanded to follow them," Yana Antonova said.

"I asked if I had been detained; and they answered yes, but told me no reasons for the detention, I wanted to express my opinion about the inadmissibility of killing people in Russia for political reasons, and I think that I was groundlessly prevented from doing this," Yana Antonova has stated.
